Battery Safety Matters

  • Never throw lithium batteries in household trash.
  • Keep batteries away from exits and flammable materials.
  • Stop using batteries that are swollen, damaged, or overheating.
  • Only use approved chargers for phones, scooters, and e-bikes.
  • Do not charge devices overnight on beds or couches.
  • Store spare lithium batteries away from metal objects, such as keys or coins.
  • Recycle old or damaged batteries at an approved battery drop-off location.

  • Test smoke alarms once a month.
  • Create and practice a home escape plan.
  • Keep exits clear and accessible.
  • Teach children how to respond to smoke alarms.
  • Know two ways out of every room.
